Canada Cancels Ukraine Military Contract

After the cancellation of a military contract with Ukraine, pressure is growing for the Canadian government to provide an explanation.

Conservatives argue that the cancellation risks making Canada appear as an unreliable ally to Ukraine and undermines commitments to bolstering the domestic defence industry.

The federal government is refusing to say why it quietly cancelled a contract for refurbished military vehicles for Ukraine.

Defence Minister David McGuinty informed the House of Commons defence committee that the contract with Armatec Survivability to refurbish 25 light armoured vehicles had been cancelled, but he couldn't provide a reason for the decision.

The company claims it is still "ready, willing and able to supply" the vehicles.
