A new research project, BRICONS, has been launched to restore native oyster reefs and boost the resilience of Ireland's coasts, thanks to a €1.5m award from the Marine Institute.
The project, led by Dr Paul Brooks from University College Dublin (UCD), involves partners from Atlantic Technological University (ATU), Queen's University Belfast (QUB), and Trinity College Dublin (TCD).
Oyster reefs, which serve many biodiversity functions, are at risk globally with an estimated 85% loss worldwide.
