Nicholas Brown, 31, was sentenced to nine months in jail for stealing a $13,000 necklace from Lambton Mall.
“Certainly you’re quite correct in that,” Justice Krista Lynn Leszczynski said. “It was very brazen.”
Brown's lawyer, Robert McFadden, described the theft as a short-lived, snatch-and-grab incident, noting that a customer followed Brown home and contacted police, leading to the quick recovery of the necklace.
Assistant Crown attorney Michael Donald emphasized the significance of the theft, stating,
“It’s not an allegation of robbery, but it’s nonetheless a very significant theft of an expensive item valued at almost $13,000.”
