Comet Lemmon, a long-term comet, is visible in the night sky over Northeast Wisconsin, offering a rare celestial display.
The comet, discovered at Mount Lemmon Observatory in Arizona in January, is known for its striking green glow, a result of carbon gas illuminated by sunlight.
"We have comets that are considered short-term comets and long-term comets. This is a long-term comet in that it's not going to come back again for more than 1,000 years."
Teri Gee, planetarium manager at Barlow Planetarium, explained the uniqueness of Comet Lemmon. The comet made its closest approach to Earth on Oct. 21, but remains visible in the western sky after sunset through early November.
