Recently, I visited Albany, New York, for a brief trip. I wandered without a plan to explore the city.
I walked along State Street, Albany's original "Main Street" and one of the oldest streets in the city. It led me to the Empire State Plaza, where government buildings are located.
The New York State Capitol, where the state legislature gathers, is a massive structure completed in 1899 at a cost of $25 million, approximately $794 million today.
The project began in 1867, taking 32 years to complete with three architectural teams designing and erecting the building.
