Fort Smith Director Supports Waterpark Expansion
Director Kevin Settle is backing the expansion of Parrot Island Waterpark, despite high installation costs for water slides.
A recent bid of $2.8 million for slide installation would increase the total cost to $6.35 million, exceeding the budget of $4.2 million.
The city has already spent $3.55 million on acquiring and preparing the slides for installation, according to Acting City Administrator Jeff Dingman.
Director Settle believes the board should 'do something very special' and fund the water slides.
However, he may be losing support from other board members due to the budget-busting costs.
