The San Jose Sharks' game against the Minnesota team was expected to be a story of blown leads, but Macklin Celebrini's heroics led to a 6-5 OT victory.
Despite dominating the first period 2-0, the Sharks' mistakes allowed their opponents to catch up. A high-sticking penalty by Vincent Iorio led to a power play goal by Marcus Johansson, and an error by Tyler Toffoli and Vincent Desharnais resulted in a 2-on-1 goal by Marco Rossi.
"That was our own doing," said San Jose Sharks head coach Ryan Warsofsky. "That's one big lesson."
The same pattern repeated in the third period, but the Sharks managed to regain their lead. Celebrini's performance has raised questions about his potential rise to superstardom.
