Acquiring for a Global Public
The British Museum is expanding its collection through donations, bequests, purchases, and commissions, a shift from its past acquisition methods.
A recent notable acquisition is the Yuan dynasty David vases (1351), part of a £1bn donation of Chinese treasures from the Sir Percival David Foundation.
The collection is intended to “inform and inspire people”.
- The donation includes a pair of blue-and-white David vases from 1351 and a 1,000-year-old Ru ware bowl stand.
