US passport support in Apple Wallet is a significant step forward.
At WWDC25, it was announced that US passport support would be coming to Apple Wallet, but it has not yet arrived in iOS 26. However, Apple recently confirmed that it is still on the way.
An update to the Apple website indicated that it would be available by the end of the year, and Jennifer Bailey, Apple's VP of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet, confirmed this in a conference keynote.
The digital passport will work similarly to making an Apple Pay transaction. Users will tap their iPhone to a reader, and their digital passport information will be transmitted via NFC.
The secure protocol used allows the TSA system to verify that your passport details are genuine.
It's essential to understand the limitations of the digital passport. Notably, it will not be possible to use it for international travel, which will still require a physical passport.
