Threatening Cracks in the Solid North
During the time of President Ferdinand Marcos Sr., the north was so solid that no one dared to question his leadership.
The Singsons, Crisologos, Ortegas, Aspiras, and the leaders of Pangasinan, Nueva Viscaya, Cagayan Valley, and the Cordilleras all supported him.
Today, the north is no longer solid. Chavit Singson has been ranting against BBM, and Senator Imee Marcos has been attacking her own younger brother and first cousin, Martin Romualdez.
Imee has been supporting the Dutertes, causing a rift in the noble house of the Marcoses.

In the 2025 local elections, the Marcos candidate for governor, Cecilia Marcos of NP, won with 299,037 votes over Joy Bulay's 14,089.
The Marcoses have held Ilocos Norte for 60 to 70 years, but now the unity of the Solid North is threatened.
