Warning on Sleep Drink DroomSap
Dutch health authorities have received reports of severe side effects linked to DroomSap, a sleep drink containing doxylamine, a banned substance in the Netherlands.
The Netherlands Pharmacovigilance Center Lareb and the National Poisons Information Center (NVIC) at UMC Utrecht have received dozens of reports describing symptoms such as:
- Heart palpitations
- Hallucinations
- Restless legs
- Severe itching
- Dizziness
- Diarrhea
- Erectile dysfunction
- Tingling sensations
- Mood changes
- Double vision
DroomSap is marketed as a natural sleep aid made with herbs and honey, but its primary effect comes from doxylamine.
Doxylamine can cause additional severe effects, including epileptic seizures, concentration problems, nightmares, and increased pressure in the eyeball.
