President Donald Trump announced plans to import 80,000 metric tons of Argentina beef, aiming to bring down beef prices.
NBC Montana spoke to Lesley Robinson, president of the Montana Stockgrowers Association, who expressed concerns about the plan.
Mainly across the board in feeling the same sentiment that we just would like the president to not intervene in our domestic beef market, Robinson said.
According to Eric Belasco, a professor at Montana State University's agricultural economics department, imports can
modestly lower prices. However, he notes that the beef market is driven mostly by domestic production, which supplies 80-90% of consumer demand.
