Prosecutors report that a driver stabbed another motorist twice in the chest during a road rage dispute near a neighborhood in Mundelein, leaving the victim in critical condition following emergency surgery.
The Mundelein Police Department arrived at the scene around 7:27 p.m. on October 29 near the intersection of Route 176 and Joice Lane after receiving a stabbing report.
Mundelein Police Chief Jason Seeley stated, "Officers found a 57-year-old male victim bleeding from stab wounds to his chest."
The victim was able to give a partial description of the suspect who had fled in a vehicle.
Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Emily Shanley-Roberts said the victim called 911, and officers observed blood covering his chest.
Shanley-Roberts said, "He told officers he was involved in a road rage incident when he was stabbed twice on the left side of his chest."
The victim provided details about the suspect's vehicle, including the license plate number, as well as a description of the attacker.
Officers found blood surrounding the victim’s car and a trail of blood approximately 15 to 20 feet long, suggesting the stabbing occurred closer to Route 176 before the victim retreated to his car on Joice Lane.
The victim was transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he underwent emergency surgery.
"The trauma nurse and trauma doctor confirmed that the man had two stab wounds and his breathing was diminished," Shanley-Roberts said.
The victim remains in critical condition following the surgery.
