Different opinions have been raised during the national conversation on corporal punishment.
The Fijian Teachers Association (FTA) is pushing for the reintroduction of corporal punishment as a disciplinary measure.
FTA General Secretary Paula Manumanunitoga says teachers are being sworn at, objects thrown at them, and female teachers are being abused.
Manumanunitoga notes that the lives of teachers are being threatened, with these issues now occurring in both primary and secondary schools.
He also states that parents are not fulfilling their roles in disciplining their children.
