An urgent recall has been issued for three tomato-based pasta sauces amid fears they may contain Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium responsible for life-threatening food poisoning.
First and Last Bakery, LLC announced an immediate recall of three popular tomato sauces after concerns arose that their production process did not follow an approved schedule, increasing the risk of bacterial contamination.
“The affected products were produced without an approved schedule, meaning the production process was not adequately evaluated to prevent the formation of this dangerous bacterium.” – US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), as reported by the Independent.
These sauces were distributed between Connecticut and Massachusetts, primarily through Big Y stores and possibly other retailers, starting from September 22, 2025.
All affected jars carry a use-by date of September 26, 2025.
While no illnesses related to these products have been reported yet, health officials stress the severity of botulism as a potentially fatal foodborne illness.
Consumers who purchased these sauces are advised to return them to their point of purchase for a full refund.
“Consuming certain jars of tomato sauce could prove fatal, posing a serious health risk.”
This recall highlights the urgency of monitoring food safety protocols to prevent deadly botulism infections.
Author’s note: Prompt action is essential to prevent risk from contaminated tomato sauces potentially harboring dangerous bacteria.
