Several local cities are organizing ceremonies to honor Remembrance Day and reflect on the sacrifices of those who served. On November 11, most federal services and federally regulated businesses, including banks and postal services, will be closed.
An event to honor Indigenous veterans will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, November 7, at Battlefield House Museum and Park, 77 King St.
“This service acknowledges and commemorates the contributions made by Indigenous veterans in service to Turtle Island,” the City of Hamilton said in a news release.
The ceremony at the Eagles Among Us Indigenous Monument will be followed by light refreshments featuring Indigenous flavors. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs due to limited seating.
The city's garrison parade is scheduled to begin at 10:15 a.m. on November 9, followed by a service at 10:45 a.m. The parade will feature Hamilton veterans, garrison units, and cadet corps, starting at John Foote V.C. N. and proceeding south to Gore Park on King Street East. The service will be held at Gore Park’s Veterans Place.
