Canon EOS R6 III Review-In-Progress

The Canon EOS R6 III enhances the capabilities of the already impressive EOS R6 II. It is an enthusiast-level camera featuring a new 32MP full-frame CMOS sensor. This model targets photographers and videographers who require high burst rates and rapid readout speeds.

Sensor and Performance

The EOS R6 III is equipped with a 33MP FSI CMOS sensor previously seen only in Canon’s cinema-focused EOS C50. While Canon does not claim major technological breakthroughs, initial tests indicate this sensor offers faster readout speeds than the lower-resolution sensor in the EOS R6 II.

The sensor features Canon's dual pixel design, in which each pixel contains two sub-pixels capturing the left and right halves of the image. This design enables full sensor phase detection autofocus.

Improvements in Video and Processing

Enhanced readout speeds coupled with updates to the card slot and processor—stated to be the same generation but improved by Canon—yield significant advancements in video capture capabilities.

"The faster readout speeds, paired with changes to the card slot and processor allow for big improvements to video capture."

Author’s summary: The Canon EOS R6 III delivers upgraded sensor performance and faster processing, enhancing both photography and videography with higher speed and improved video features.
