Canon has introduced the new EOS R6 Mark III. This model shares many features with the Canon EOS C50 but is designed in a form factor better suited for still photography. Despite this focus, the EOS R6 Mark III offers impressive video capabilities.
The R6 Mark III succeeds the R6 Mark II, which was released over three years ago, following the original R6 from July 2020.
The camera uses the same 32MP 3:2 full-frame sensor found in the EOS C50. This is an upgrade from the 24.2MP CMOS sensor used in the previous R6 Mark II.
However, unlike the EOS C80 and C400, the sensor in the R6 Mark III and C50 does not feature Dual Gain Output (DGO) or a back-illuminated stacked CMOS design, which enhances autofocus performance. This sensor choice differs from bodies like the C80, C400, and R3 that use these advanced sensors.
The EOS R6 Mark III incorporates the DIGIC DV 7 processor, shared with the C50, C80, C400, C500 Mark II, and C300 Mark III models.
“It’s interesting to see that the R6 Mark III and C50 don’t feature a Back Illuminated Stacked sensor like the C80 and C400, and R3. One of the reasons a lot of companies are now utilizing back-illuminated stacked CMOS sensors is that they allow for better AF performance.”
Author's summary: The Canon EOS R6 Mark III combines a robust 33MP sensor and advanced video features in a camera optimized for both still photography and high-quality video capture.
