The Baltimore Orioles are set to bring in free agent outfielder Leody Taveras, according to reports. The deal is pending a physical, as noted by journalist Mike Rodriguez. The organization has not yet made an official announcement.
Seattle designated Taveras for assignment in mid-June after obtaining him from Texas via a waiver claim in early May. Once he cleared waivers, he was sent outright to Triple-A Tacoma. A few weeks later, Taveras elected free agency.
Taveras has played parts of five seasons in the majors with Texas, debuting in 2020 in a part-time capacity. His early offensive numbers were modest, but his defensive range in center field and speed on the bases stood out. He expanded his role significantly in subsequent seasons, appearing in 143 games in 2023.
Taveras achieved Super Two status before the 2024 campaign, qualifying for arbitration. He and the Rangers reached a $4.75 million agreement for the 2025 season. However, Texas’s luxury tax concerns reportedly fueled trade speculation before the team decided to retain him. His offensive struggles later in the season led to a .241/.259 batting line and his eventual release.
“Outfielder Leody Taveras has an agreement with the Orioles pending a physical,” reported Mike Rodriguez.
Leody Taveras, known for his speed and defensive skills, joins the Orioles after stints with Texas and Seattle, aiming to reset his career following a downturn in offensive performance.
