No Easter Festival of Plays in 2026 but One Act Plays Will Be Held

The Manx Amateur Drama Federation (MADF) marked its 75th anniversary this year. Despite this milestone, MADF has announced there will be no Easter Festival of Plays in 2026.

Instead, MADF will host a Festival of One Act Plays in March at the Erin Arts Centre. This decision allows the federation to take a year off after celebrating 75 years of the festival, with plans to return to the full festival format in 2027.

Festival of One Act Plays Details

The One Act Plays festival will take place from March 12 to 14 at the Erin Arts Centre. Drama societies from both the UK and the Isle of Man are invited to enter short plays. Performances will be followed by adjudication from Sue Doherty of the Guild of Drama Adjudicators.

Prizes and Adjudication

Sue Doherty said, "I have over 40 years of experience in arts education and theatre."

Sue is Head of Performing Arts at St Julie’s High School in Liverpool, where she has promoted access to the arts for all young people. Many of her students have gone on to train at RADA, Guildhall, and LIPA, achieving success on stage and screen, including BAFTA winner Jodie Comer.

She has also worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company, led City of Culture projects, and created impactful verbatim theatre addressing social issues.
