Before this year, I didn’t consider myself a Bruce Springsteen fan. I knew of him, of course, but my knowledge was limited to [translate:“Born in the U.S.A.”] and a few other hits. When I heard Jeremy Allen White would portray him in an upcoming biopic, I wanted to explore his music more deeply. I have admired White since his early roles on [translate:“Shameless”], so watching this movie became a priority.

My journey through Springsteen’s extensive discography began, and I quickly became a new fan. I wasn’t aware of all the lore or hidden references in his lyrics, so I was unsure how engaging the film would be for me. I saw Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere during its opening weekend and was pleasantly surprised by the story it presented, despite some flaws.

Focus on Creation, Not Biography

The film excels in portraying an artist immersed in the creative process. It does not cover Springsteen’s entire life but centers on the period when he was writing Nebraska, his sixth studio album.

“One thing the film does exceptionally well is depict an artist in the midst of creation.”

The movie’s focus on this intense, formative time provides a compelling look at the struggles and inspirations behind one of Springsteen’s most iconic works.

Author's summary: The film captures the creative intensity of Bruce Springsteen’s journey during the making of Nebraska, offering a fresh perspective that engages both new and longtime fans alike.
