Kyle Bevan, serving a life sentence at HMP Wakefield for the murder of his stepdaughter, was found dead in his prison cell earlier this week.
The 33-year-old was discovered at 8:25 a.m. on Wednesday, November 5. Following the discovery, an investigation was launched by West Yorkshire Police.
Authorities confirmed that Mark Fellows, 45, Lee Newell, 56, and David Taylor, 63, have been charged with Bevan’s murder. All three men remain in custody and are expected to appear before Leeds Magistrates’ Court.
Bevan was convicted at Swansea Crown Court on April 4, 2023, for killing his two-year-old stepdaughter, Lola James. He received a life sentence with a minimum term of 28 years.
Lola’s mother, Sinead James, was found guilty of causing or allowing her daughter’s death and was sentenced to six years in prison.
Bevan inflicted “catastrophic” brain injuries on Lola at their home in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, in the early hours of July 17, 2020. She died in hospital four days later.
During the four-week trial, Bevan denied harming Lola and claimed the family dog had caused her fall down the stairs. The court also heard that Bevan and James had met on Facebook in February 2020, and he moved into their home just days later.
The case of Kyle Bevan’s death in prison unfolds amid grim details of his conviction and renewed charges against three fellow inmates, marking another disturbing chapter in a tragic story.
