Matthew Macfadyen Threatened with Divorce by Wife for Unusual Reason
The Succession actor, 50, and his wife Keeley Hawes, 49, recently marked their 21st wedding anniversary, having first met in 2002. The couple share two children, Maggie, 20, and Ralph, 19, while Matthew is also a devoted stepfather to Keeley’s son Myles, 25, from her previous marriage.
Despite their long and happy relationship, Macfadyen admitted that Keeley once jokingly threatened him with divorce for a rather unusual reason related to his work on the series Succession.
While filming in the American Southwest, the actor tried to fully embrace local culture during his stay.
“Speaking to the Travel Secrets podcast, Matthew explained: ‘We went to Santa Fe in New Mexico, to the high desert.’ He continued: ‘I remember calling Keeley and saying, Do you think I’d get away with buying cowboy boots?’”
Although playful, Keeley’s response made clear that she preferred he leave the cowboy look behind. The exchange revealed the couple’s humor and down‑to‑earth relationship dynamic.
