Miners prosper as FTSE 100 makes steady progress, with gold miners Fresnillo and Endeavour Mining rising 9.1% and 11% respectively.
The FTSE 100 index closed up 15.40 points, 0.2%, at 9,442.87, recouping some of Friday's losses, while the FTSE 250 ended 262.48 points higher, 1.2%, at 22,064.32.
In European equities, the CAC 40 in Paris closed up 0.2%, while the DAX 40 in Frankfurt ended up 0.6%.
President Donald Trump dialled down his rhetoric in the trade spat between the US and China.
