The Netherlands' election has resulted in a favorable outcome for Europe's centrists, with Rob Jetten, a pro-European liberal, emerging as a potential prime minister.
Geert Wilders, the far-right populist, lost nearly a third of his voters after a chaotic 11 months in coalition, while Jetten surged in the final days of the campaign.
“Many in the Brussels bubble will welcome the rise of a mainstream, pro-governing and reform-oriented party,”
said an EU diplomat. At 38, Jetten would be the youngest person to hold the office since World War II and the first openly gay candidate to do so.
