Study Reveals Barriers and Enablers to Infant Abuse Prevention Programme ICON
A new study has investigated how healthcare managers and frontline staff impact the delivery and sustainability of the ICON programme, a UK-wide initiative aimed at reducing the risk of abusive head trauma (AHT) in infants.
The study, led by the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration West (ARC West), is published in BMC Public Health and provides insights into the perspectives of those responsible for implementing ICON in practice.
- Researchers conducted interviews and focus groups with 53 managers and healthcare professionals across 6 regions of England.
- The study took place between October 2022 and April 2023.
The ICON programme has been widely adopted in hospitals and primary care to reduce the risk of abusive head trauma in infants.
