Picture Book Sows Seeds of Community Outreach

A picture book, When a Tree Falls by Kirsten Pendreigh, inspired Missouri environmental activist Tricia Falmer to donate 350 copies to her local school district.

The book teaches children about forest regeneration and helped Falmer advocate for woodland preservation in Ladue, Mo.

Falmer's efforts were put to the test when city officials ordered her to remove dead trees and limbs from her 1.82-acre property, citing a city ordinance that requires removal of anything 60% dead or dying.

Despite her advocacy, Falmer was overruled by city officials.

Author's summary: Environmental activist donates books to school.
