Several Miss Universe contestants left a pre-pageant event after a tense altercation involving Miss Mexico, Fátima Bosch, and pageant executive Nawat Itsaragrisil on Tuesday.
The conflict began when Itsaragrisil asked all contestants to promote Thailand, the host country, on their social media. Bosch refused to comply with this demand, prompting the executive to insist she verbally confirm her support.
“You are in Thailand. You are in a game.”
The situation intensified when Itsaragrisil reprimanded Bosch for not joining a photo shoot highlighting Thailand. He accused her of prioritizing the Miss Mexico directors' instructions over his Miss Universe team's expectations. During the exchange, he insulted her by calling her a “dummy.”
“I heard you’re not going to support everything about Thailand.”
When Itsaragrisil ordered Bosch to sit, she responded, “Because I have a voice,” and accused him of disrespecting her as a woman. Other contestants protested loudly as Itsaragrisil summoned security to remove Bosch. Upon leaving, Bosch stated:
“As women, you need to show respect for us.”
This incident highlights ongoing tensions about respect and autonomy within international pageants, especially concerning cultural promotion and contestant treatment.
