Roslyn Morauta, Chair of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, praised Qatar as a valued and consistent partner in the fight against infectious diseases during an interview at the Second World Summit for Social Development in Doha.
Morauta emphasized Qatar’s expanding influence in global health financing, noting the country's steady increase in contributions since joining the Fund as a donor in 2016. Although Qatar currently holds a non-voting seat on the donor side of the Global Fund Board, she expressed optimism that Doha’s involvement will soon lead to a full voting position.
Describing the Global Fund as a “unique partnership,” Morauta highlighted how it unites governments, private foundations, and civil society to achieve measurable health outcomes in developing countries.
“The Global Fund is not like any other multilateral organisation. It is built on a true public-private partnership model where both donors and implementers have equal say. Those who receive funding have as much voice as those who give it.” – Roslyn Morauta
Morauta’s comments underscore the Fund’s distinct approach and the crucial role of emerging partners like Qatar in sustaining global progress against major infectious diseases.
Author’s summary: Qatar’s growing contributions to the Global Fund reflect its rising influence in global health, supporting a unique public-private partnership that has saved millions of lives since 2002.
