Airbuds is a social platform where users can see what music their friends are currently listening to. The app, launched in 2022, connects with streaming services like Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon Music, and SoundCloud to update a live feed of songs played by friends.
I've been using Airbuds for over a year to stay updated on my friends' music choices. The app allows me to casually check their playlists, react with emojis, or send direct messages about songs without the pressure of creating posts.
Reddit cofounder Alexis Ohanian is not just a user but also an investor. His venture capital firm, Seven Seven Six, led a recent $5 million funding round for Airbuds.
"What I liked about the Airbuds approach was that it didn't really ask much of a new user," Ohanian said. He noted that the app’s automatic feed offers passive content from "actual human friends of yours."
Unlike traditional social networks, Airbuds focuses on music as the core content, reducing pressure on users to create posts.
"The music itself is the content."
