Mountain View Council Member Discusses Climate Policy with Saint Francis Students
Saint Francis High School hosted Mountain View City Council member Alison Hicks to talk about climate accountability and local political engagement.
As part of a statewide effort, high school students in California rallied for climate legislation, with many walking out of their schools on October 24 to call on state leaders to pass the Polluters Pay Climate Superfund Act.
Instead of organizing a walkout, the Saint Francis Environmental Club invited Hicks to engage with students on campus. According to Saint Francis junior and Environmental Club member Emma Dougherty,
“Our goal was to engage our peers and help them be more aware of politics that are happening around them and how they can have an impact in their future”.
The event aimed to raise awareness about climate policy and encourage students to participate in local political engagement.
