Volunteers Help Set Stage for Native Butterflies' Return

Volunteers gathered on Saturday to plant 1,000 prairie violets at Prairie Woods Environmental Learning Center in rural Spicer, Minnesota.

The goal of this project is to transform four hilltops into a display of color as native prairie flowers bloom and grasses change through the seasons, attracting native butterflies, such as the regal fritillary.

"What we're doing is trying to upgrade the habitat on those areas,"

said Scott Glup, welcoming over three dozen volunteers who devoted their Saturday afternoon to helping make this transformation possible.

The project aims to restore the prairie and create a suitable environment for native butterflies to return.
