Sex Education and The White Lotus star Aimee Lou Wood has shared her thoughts on Hollywood, reflecting on her experiences while filming her new movie, Anxious People. The film is an upcoming American comedy directed by Marc Forster and written by David Magee, adapted from Fredrik Backman's 2019 novel. Wood stars alongside Angelina Jolie in the production.
Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar magazine, Wood described life in Los Angeles as emotionally exhausting. She used a metaphor related to consumption to express her feelings:
“I find LA emotionally bulimic, and I say that as an ex-bulimic.”
She elaborated, “It is this super-sized adventure where everyone’s talking about you all the time and you have to talk about yourself all the time. And then I leave, and I want to throw it all up.”
Wood considers acting a safe space to process her emotions, contrasting it with the pressures of Hollywood life. She recalled a moment on set during an emotional scene when crew members shouted at her, which left her unsettled. Reflecting on her growth, she said:
“I’ve spent years feeling unable to say anything like that for fear of seeming argumentative – but now I feel like I can take ownership of what I need to thrive, and tell people what won’t work for me.”
Aimee Lou Wood finds the Hollywood environment emotionally overwhelming but views acting as a vital outlet to express herself and advocate for her needs on set.
