I Love LA is the latest hit streaming on HBO Max. Showrunners Rachel Sennott and Emma Barrie featured a special cameo from Ayo Edebiri in the show’s second episode, sharing its backstory publicly.
Rachel Sennott discussed with Deadline how her close friend Ayo Edebiri joined the project. Emma Barrie added insight about Ayo’s unique choice to portray her delusional pop star character as British.
“I pitched the idea of a character to Ayo Edebiri over a video call,” said Rachel Sennott.
Sennott highlighted how Ayo contributed to shaping the character’s quirks and comedic style. The role was clearly a collaborative effort, and Sennott expressed genuine satisfaction with the outcome.
Ayo Edebiri is not the only notable star in the first season. Leighton Meester, known from Gossip Girl, appears as the boss of Rachel Sennott’s character.
“Leighton Meester is an idol turned co-star,” said Sennott in a Bustle interview.
