Two Drown in Dandenong Creek

A woman and a child drowned after falling into Dandenong Creek near Allan Street this afternoon.

A witness reported that the two were swept away around 3:45 pm. It is believed the woman tried to rescue the child but also got into trouble.

Police searched the area, found the unconscious pair, pulled them from the water, and started CPR. Despite emergency services' efforts, they could not be revived and were declared deceased at the scene.

The identities of the victims are not yet known. Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
