Federal decision on scaled back Tasmania wind project delayed for fifth time

Federal Decision on Tasmania Wind Project Delayed

The St Patricks Plains wind project in Tasmania has faced its fifth delay in receiving a decision under the federal Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act.

The project, initially designed for 67 turbines, has been scaled back to 47 turbines with a capacity of 291 megawatts (MW). It was deemed to require federal supervision under the EPBC Act in 2019.

A government spokesperson stated that the delays, including the latest one, were requested by the project's developer, Ark Energy. The new deadline for a decision is set for November 28.

Ark Energy, which acquired the project in 2022, has been contacted for comment on the matter.

No comment has been received from Ark Energy at this time.

The project is proposed for a site in Tasmania's Central Highlands, south-east of Milena and 25km north of Bothwell.

Author's summary: Tasmania wind project faces fifth delay.
